More sketches from this week’s Daily Dose cafe. This model has legs for days! She’s so tall! I think she will be back dressed as Jessica Rabbit in the next 2 Mondays from now at Daily Dose Cafe, such a cool place, plus there’s a taco stand around the corner and some cool dive bars in the area after drawing. Uploaded from my blogger app, it’s so much easier to update through my phone! Try it, it’s kinda cool =)
Its a new year and I told myself I would do more fashion illustration sketches. And just more sketching in general everyday! I have missed out a bit last year being in a fashion drawing group because I was so busy with life, grad school, work work in general. But this year I’m going to get more involved! Excited for what this new year may bring =)
Lately I’ve been getting inspired by what some women have been wearing on the trains in NYC. I love the eclectic mix of styles, from business suits to trendy styles, I really am starting to appreciate the diversity of people and cultures in New York and Brooklyn. I love that each and every person I see randomly has a way of inspiring me in even the smallest ways. I hope to post more of these drawings soon!
Lately I’ve been more focused on writing and going to my Novel Writing Class in Brooklyn, I’m learning so much! And the writing exercises we do in class has really been helping me with my writing. I’ve been learning how to think on the spot and come up with random ideas based on topics. Some of the fun ones we recently did in class was do Character Sketches in which we would imagine what kind of shoes our character would wear and you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes! And also reading other short excerpts and chapters from different novels to get a sense of learning to write in a certain way. My mind is so open right now, I feel like a sponge! I’m soaking everything up right now!
This drawing I did was inspired by a girl I saw randomly on the train and she had this really cute haircut. Although I couldn’t figure out what her style was, somewhere between a futurist and someone dressing for the cold weather. I don’t know, but she looked really comfy and cute at the same time that I just had to draw her!
Lately I have been getting swept away in the Fashion World of New York City, it’s very easy to get caught up because New York is the Fashion Capital of the world! I’ve been meeting some amazing people through my Fashion Drawing Group in New York and have been going to some really fun events. Brandon Graham of Would You Rock This has been awesome at booking a bunch of illustrators from our Fashion drawing group for Fashion Week. I got lucky enough to be picked and participate watching the Vantan Tokyo Fashion Show at the Mercedes Benz Fashion week at the Lincoln Center. This was the first time that I had ever been to the Lincoln Center and it was quite majestic in architecture. It doesn’t disappoint!
It has been the busiest 3 weeks! New job, getting settled in New York… and the list goes on!
Here are some experimental drawings that I’ve been exploring with fashion illustration and really trying to hone in on a style. You may have seen low res pics on instagram or my FB page in the last few weeks. I recently just bought an Epson V330 scanner! It is awesome! So happy I finally bought one, I’ve been needing one! My old Canon LiDe broke in one of my boxes that I shipped to NY. My packing wasn’t very good =(
